Celebaby Name Awards 2020

With 2020 drawing to a long-awaited close (thank goodness), there are some last bits of business the Name Warehouse must attend to. As the title likely suggests, those last bits of business include handing out some awards to celebaby, or celebrity babies, names that have surpassed their peers in creativity, originality, trendiness, or other qualities. For while I may not be qualified enough to hand out Oscars or Emmys, I do have quite the passion for baby names. Today, I’ll be awarding one winner for my ultimate favorite, based solely on personal preference, one winner for best combo, one winner for most unique, one winner for trendiest, and one winner for the name that blends best with their sibset. I’ll only be deciding between the names I’ve covered in the celebabies series this year, so if one of your favorites is absent from the rankings, that’s why. The celebabies series only started several months ago, so it doesn’t cover names from earlier in the year. Now, let’s begin with my favorite celebaby name of the year!

Delphina Moon’s Favorite Celebaby Name Award

This is painfully difficult to decide. The celebaby names given this year are stunning, but I’m going to have to give it to Rupert Grint and Georgia Groome with their baby girl Wednesday G. Grint. Wednesday is delightfully quirky and unique, and comes packed with an abundance of nicknames, which is often one of my own priorities when scrolling through lists of baby names. Not only that, many of the prominent nicknames of the name Wednesday are vintage gems, sparkling with retro magic and carrying on the same quirky-cute vibes of Wednesday herself. Take Wendy, for instance. Sweet and intuitive, Wendy is the perfect match to Wednesday’s kooky and unconventional feel with a bit more cuteness added in. Or Daisy, which may not be as prevalent in the name upon first glance, but is an adorable mini moniker nonetheless. Wednesday G. is more than deserving of this award, given my fondness for this appellation, her nicknames, and her brief but intriguing G. middle initial.

Best Baby Name Combo Award

The daughter of Grey’s Anatomy’s Caterina Scorscone will have to win best combo award for this year. She’s been given the name Arwen Lucinda Jane, called Lucky, which I think is a striking and adorable blend of styles and syllables. With a fantastical first name that feels a little modern coupled with a thoroughly vintage and retro choice and finished off with a beautiful and understated classic, the middle names perfectly balance Lucky’s name. The combination allows for the best of modern, retro, and traditional to mesh into a wonderful blend, and that’s not even mentioning the varied syllable count featured in the name. With a simple and short two syllables up front, Lucinda counters that with her lengthier three syllable form, and Jane ends the name with a short and sweet punch of classic. Overall, Arwen Lucinda Jane is a striking and well-balanced combination, the perfect recipient of this award.

Most Unique Celebaby Name Award

This one hands down goes to Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross’s little boy, Ziggy Blu. With brother Bronx Mowgli and sister Jagger Snow, it’s no wonder the couple would choose an equally distinct moniker for their son. Ziggy has a bouncy and bright touch that feels sunny and hopeful, but lacks mainstream use whatsoever. While it isn’t as rare statistically speaking as a full name as Mint, the name chosen by Dutch model Romee Strijd, the use of Mint as a nickname for Araminta would likely outnumber any Ziggys. The zippy Z is energetic and youthful, a lovely and bouncy choice for a little boy. And the use of rare names doesn’t stop there. Ziggy is paired with Blu, an even rarer choice than just plain old Blue. Blu brings some calmness to peppy Ziggy and anchors the combo, yet offers just as rare of an option. Ziggy Blu seems to be the rarest name we’ve covered at the Name Warehouse in 2020, and is the recipient of this award.

Trendiest Celebaby Name

And by that, I mean a name that is the hottest for everyday people who only get a couple loves from college friends on their birth announcements, not a slew of views and comments. Names that are gaining tons of traction, and have a celebaby namesake to prove it. The winner of the trendiest baby name award this year is the son of Bachelor in Paradise couple Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert, Reed Harrison. Reed is a nature name that screams 2020, the perfect choice for a trendy name. Borrowed from the natural world, Reed has a ruggedly handsome charm that parents just can’t resist, especially with the addition of Harrison. A member of the surname trend, Harrison feels rooted in tradition thanks to Harris, yet also up-to-date and current, which appeals to many modern day couples searching for a name for their little one. Reed reeks of glorious 21st century appeal, and even better, is wedged in that wonderful crossroad between popular and rare, at #401. Reed Harrison is more than deserving of the trendiest celebaby name.

Best Celebaby Sibset Award

Maybellene Alma Joy has got to make the Best Celebaby Sibset award this year. The 7th child of 90s boy band star Taylor Hanson, previously a part of the band Hanson, she joins siblings Jordan Ezra, Penelope Ann, Viggo Moriah, River Samuel, Wihelmina Jane, and Claude Indiana Emmanuel. While the sibset seems to be teetering between two conflicting styles, I think that Maybellene seamlessly unites them and makes the names feel cohesive and perfect together. With some pinches of modern, a couple dashes of eco-names, and a bevy of vintage vibes clashing within the sibset, Maybellene and her counterparts Alma and Joy tie up the loose ends style-wise and offers a little something for each style, blending them and making her truly deserving of the Best Celebaby Sibset Award. Plus, 7 children over a couple decades makes it difficult to pin down one style, and Maybellene works wonderfully to combat the differences in preferences the couple had over the years.

Congratulations to all winners of the Celebaby Name Awards event this year, and also to those who didn’t necessarily stand out in a particular category mentioned here today, yet are still equally lovely and given with equally sweet intentions by their parents. Thank you for attending the awards ceremony this year, and thanks for checking out the Name Warehouse. Farewell!

Sincerely,

~Delphina Moon
