Delphina Moon’s Valentine’s Day Name Combos

I will admit, I’m a sucker for a name combo. Creating whimsical favorites that combine mis-matched style just right, oohing and aahing over stunning double middles or exotic new firsts, and attempting to conjure up the perfect imagery with a combination are all among some of my favorite pastimes (though fear not, I do have a life outside of baby names). And because it’s Valentine’s Day today, I’m more than thrilled to try and develop the beautiful rose reds and precious pink tones that come with this holiday, along with some hints of love and romance in the name combinations I’m creating today. These are mostly for fun, given that the majority of people having a child on Valentine’s Day are likely not reading this article, but feel free to add any of these to your own name list, notebook, or mention any stand-out new names to your partner. I am so excited to begin, so I’ll do just that now!

Amoura Sinclair- Amoura’s an obvious choice. Feminine and frilly with hints of classic style and format yet very modern and novel, Amoura is a French name with the meaning “love.” Her meaning alone ties in the aspect of romance and Valentine’s Day together. Add her origins in the home of the city of love and you’ve got a very sweet, charming little girl name, angelic and adorable. But I thought I’d add a little kick, just to spice up the otherwise tame and soft Amoura. However, I still wanted to preserve that lovely gentleness with a surname name that had a sound that wouldn’t overshadow the dainty Amoura, but would still pack a mighty punch. Enter Sinclair. An elevation of the simple and cute Amoura Claire, I cranked it up a notch by adding a last-for-first (or in this case, middle) twist. To me, Amoura Sinclair is a sweet name with a little sass to back her up, and I really love it.

Simon Jedidiah- Jedidiah is actually the Valentine’s Day related choice in this one. A biblical name meaning “love,” Jedidiah feels a tad out there, but does rank in the top 1000, and his unique and lengthy sound and rarity make him a lovely choice for a Valentine’s Day combo: bold. To top off this biblical combo, I decided to add the scholarly Simon, a tailored and neat alternative to Theodore, which nicely balances the eye-catching Jedidiah without taking away the biblical beauty. A huge plus? Together, the combination forms “the listener loves.” How adorable is that? While this combo may not feel as apparently Valentine’s Day themed as Amoura Sinclair, Simon Jedidiah still has a romantic glimmer, the studious vintage notes of Simon blending harmoniously with the strength and liveliness of Jedidiah.

Esme Mirabelle- Ahh, she’s so beautiful. Right off the bat, the gorgeous, girly, and visually intriguing Esme takes the stage, a French wonder that feels more than at home in the city of love. Pronounced Ez-may, Esme conveys romance and sweetness with her sound alone, but her meaning actually corresponds with the images of eating breakfast for dinner in the Eiffel tower against a beautiful sunset (and believe me, I adore breakfast for dinner). Esme has the delightful meaning of “beloved” or “loved.” I was having difficulties pairing the dramatic and elusive Esme with anything that would parallel her beauty and strength yet would also add a touch more cuteness to the combo. However, I used my old “find a letter that stands out in the name and use that as the first initial of the middle name” trick and discovered Esme Mirabelle, the perfect mesh of sophisticated meals on the Eiffel tower and a little girl twirling in a meadow.

Eowyn Scarlett- Pronounced Ay-win, Eowyn Scarlett feels subtle enough to go under the radar for a baby not born on Valentine’s Day, but has plenty of cute connections in the first and middle names that tie her to the holiday and the general theme of love. Eowyn is a name meaning “horse lover” wonderful for a family partial to riding horses or those searching for a name full of love this Valentine’s Day. Despite this sweet message, I had a hard time connecting Eowyn’s imagery to that of Valentine’s day, particularly color scheme wise. So I enlisted a very obviously Valentine’s Day related color: Scarlett. This beautiful shade of red has begun to mount the charts rapidly as a first name, so I thought putting the significantly less rare and Valentine’s related Scarlett beside the gentle Eowyn would add the right amount of familiarity as well as a good dose of Valentine’s hints. I quite enjoy the sounds and styles that are thriving together in this combination, and overall, like it very much.

Aurelius Valentine- To me, Aurelius feel like a heroic baby boy name. Almost excessively elaborate and masculine if you add an over dramatic middle name. And boy did I add an over dramatic middle name! I’ve been waiting for the chance to use Valentine, and here it is. Valentine, very obviously, is the saint and holiday name of Valentine’s Day, making it a very direct tie. The name Valentine by himself feels charismatic and glamorous, like the star in an extremely excessive soap opera, yet somehow, the name actually seems as if I’d wear quite well on a little boy, at least to me. As for Aurelius, I simply thought that the name felt equally romantic and alluring as well as heroic. While I normally think that two names with a very prominent and strong shared quality shouldn’t be paired, Aurelius Valentine, while slightly excessive, is also very handsome. In fact, a nickname like Rey could probably tone it down to fit a little baby.

With honorary mention going to Keiran Rhys and Genevieve Carys, that closes up the Name Warehouse for today. I greatly appreciate all of your support, and wish you a very happy Valentine’s day, hopefully spent with (or on video call with) someone special. Goodbye for now!

Sincerely,

-Delphina Moon
