Holiday Baby Names

Whether you’re expecting your lovely and long-awaited holiday baby or are just searching for an uplifting and jolly name for a child born during a global pandemic, names that feel true to the holidays are sure to delight many parents with their sweet and happy feeling and undeniably sunny outlook. If you’re looking for some Christmas baby names beyond the standard Noelle and Holly, then this list is perfect for you! Today, I’m going to take a look at some beautiful names for boys and girls that have connections to the holidays. Merry Christmas, Name Warehouse readers, and let’s begin with some cheery baby names shining with hope and holiday spirit!

Angelica- A sweet variation of past favorite Angela, Angelica feels slightly more elaborate, and definitely more Christmas-y. Meaning and very obviously containing “angel,” a very key part of holiday decor and the story of Christmas, there’s no doubt that Angelica would make a fairly subtle but sweet tie to the holidays for a Christmas baby. Dainty and vintage but with plenty of strength and poise thanks to Hamilton’s Angelica Schuyler, a witty and intelligent character, parents are sure to see Angelica as a new and fresh choice after the production was filmed and translated into a Disney+ sensation reachable to many expecting couples.

Estelle- Lacy and elegant, Estelle means “star,” another vital element in both Christmas decoration and the biblical story of the star of Bethlehem. A lovely and offbeat alternative to the more popular Stella, Estelle or Estella carries the appeal of hints of Christmas in her as well, although also alluding to talent and stardom if that’s how you wish to interpret the meaning. Another glorious French girl name with the stunning -elle sound of Isabelle and Annabelle integrated in, Estelle has real potential to become something big, and is especially fitting for a Christmas baby girl for her meaning.

Axel- For a cool and sporty boy name with roots and history, turn to Axel. Not to mention his sprinkle of Christmas flavor added in his meaning, “father of peace.” A beautiful Scandinavian name that feels classic in his home country, his cool middle X and the axe sound incorporated in the name makes him feel punky and modern, in addition to the influence of rock’n’roll Axl Rose, who adds to the cool and stylish feel. Axel is also a cool anagram to honor Uncle Alex, and that similarity to such a modern yet classic name makes Axel feel very flexible in terms of what style he subscribes to.

Neva- I think Neva is just absolutely striking. A simple format of the classic, tried and true consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel paired with a beautiful middle V and stunning imagery following a gorgeous meaning that feels perfect for the holiday season and winter babies in general is wonderful. Neva is Spanish, and means “white snow,” a wintry name that doesn’t necessarily require a holiday birthday to work it’s wonders. Intriguing and different yet slightly familiar, Neva is a lovely option for a baby born in winter months.

Gabriel- A name that feels undoubtedly appropriate for a child born on or near Christmas, Gabriel was the name of an angel in the biblical story of Christmas, making it a lovely and significant choice. The stylish ending of -iel with the friendly and approachable nickname Gabe attached, there’s a reason Gabriel ranks at #37 this year. He’s popular enough that it’s not blatantly obvious that he has ties to Christmas, but definitely won’t raise any eyebrows when you explain why you chose the name Gabriel for a holiday baby boy.

Snow- This one is a tad obvious. But adorable, nevertheless. Winter is doing great with her accessible nickname Winnie, and Harlow, Marlow, Otto, Milo and more are sailing up the charts with vintage and modern surname style charm. So why not Snow, who combines the best of these two names: the imagery and the modern feel. Snow was given to 48 little girls last year, making her very rare, but easy spell, say, and has a beautiful connection to the best part for many about the holiday season.

Clement- Surprisingly, the Claude, Clement, Clarke branch of vintage boy names haven’t quite caught on yet. But Clement does boast a nice correlation with the Christmas season. Author and poet Clement Clarke Moore was the writer of the classic Christmas poem Twas The Night Before Christmas that is still beloved and read to children all over the world to this day. While the poet’s name is likely a detail that won’t spring to mind for most people meeting your son, I would say that the subtlety of the Christmas link allows your son to decide whether or not he wants to share the connection with people in his life or not, and gives the parents the opportunity to allude to the wonderful occasion and holiday without embarrassing their child.

Casper- One of the wise men or Magi mentioned bearing gifts for baby Jesus in the biblical story of Christmas, Casper may be a nice choice for a baby of parents who love the religious significance and the thought of their son also being wise and generous to those around him. And if you prefer Caspar? No issues! The three wise men were named Balthasar, Caspar, and Casper, so you’re free to take your pick of spelling. Casper is vintage, a brother to Jasper, and sure to surpass the unfortunate Casper the Ghost association soon and become a beloved holiday favorite for little boys worldwide.

I hope you enjoyed getting the scoop on 4 girl and boy names linked to the holidays, Name Warehouse. I hope this article brightened up your holiday, particularly if Covid restrictions have made it hard to live Christmas up this year. Make sure to enjoy your holiday, and merry Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa to all!

Sincerely,

~Delphina Moon
