November Celebabies-2020

It’s been an interesting month or so of little celebabies, babies born into the spotlight. Harry Potter actors and actresses, singers, and Bachelor nation stars alike all welcomed bundles of joy in late October or November, and I’m about to dive into some of the most high profile of the birth announcements. After reviewing and giving my opinions on some of the hottest names in Hollywood, I will predict some possible names that stars who are currently expecting may choose for their babies. After all, not all celebrities find themselves choosing names completely unusable to the public. In fact, a good celebaby or two can push a potential name craze into the public view. So, let’s get this started!

Wednesday G. Grint

Ah, Wednesday. A long guilty pleasure of mine, I was thrilled to see that the actor behind Harry Potter’s Ron Weasley, Rupert Grint, has chosen the name for his baby girl. Quirky and eclectic with some macabre undertones thanks to Wednesday Adams, Wednesday is an adorable name for a little girl, at least in my opinion. While the name in full is a lot, Wendy, Nessie, or even Daisy could lighten up or ‘normalize’ the name if needed. Georgia Groome and Rupert Grint, the proud parents of baby Wednesday, have chosen an initial, G, for their daughter’s middle name. Whether or not the G represents a longer name, I don’t know, (if we’re speculating, perhaps it represents either Georgia or Groome, her mother’s name) but the syllable variation between the two syllables of Wednesday and the one syllable of the letter G does flow beautifully. The only issue? Despite Wednesday being a word name, some people don’t know how to spell it, due to its phonetically divergent D.

Abraham Benjamin “Bam”- Brother to Donnie and Margot

Jessie Cave, another Harry Potter actress who played the part of Lavender welcomed a baby boy with a very traditional name. Abraham Benjamin is thoroughly traditional and biblical, far more so than his 6 and 4 year old siblings, Donnie and Margot, but not to fear. This classic combo is accompanied by a fun and energetic nickname: Bam! I adore how the couple went for such a solid and masculine name that would truly stand the test of time yet paired it with such a playful and current nickname. Abraham is a Hebrew name that ranks at #191, a far cry from mainstream popularity and trendiness, but, thanks to his classic status, wonderfully familiar. He’s been passed down from the biblical figure to president Lincoln to generations of boys and men of today, making him historical, but has plenty of nicknames, like Bam, Abe, or Bram, that distinguish between decades. Although I wouldn’t think to put Abraham Benjamin, called Bam, on my personal favorite list, I think it’s a very creative choice that may motivate growing families to consider Bam as a nickname for their Abraham’s as well.

Reed Harrison Tolbert-Brother to Emerson Avery “Emmy” and Brooks Easton

Bachelor in Paradise couple Tanner Tolbert and Jade Roper have just added their third child to the family, a little boy who their social media followers helped to name. A brother to Emerson Avery and Brooks Easton, I wouldn’t expect them to go for anything less than current and trendy, and that’s exactly what they did, in addition to carrying on the nature theme from Brooks’s name into Reed’s. Harrison perfectly aligns with Easton and Avery, a contemporary surname style middle name, and I don’t think I could’ve thought of a better brother to Emerson Avery and Brooks Easton. Aside from the name simply integrating well into his sibling’s names, Reed Harrison himself is a wonderful name. An English name that ranks at that glorious crossroad between popular and rare, Reed, #401, feels outdoorsy and rugged, a handsome name for a variety of ages. His similarity to the word read also gives him a touch of literary in addition to the nature associations, and then there’s the musical woodwind connection as well. In other words, Reed is incredibly flexible and I think a beautiful addition to this sibset.

Ziggy Blu Ross-Brother to Bronx Mowgli and Jagger Snow

Singer-songwriter Ashlee Simpson, sister of Jessica Simpson, and her husband Evan Ross have welcomed a third child (deja vu here…November seems to be an opportune month for third celebabies!) The family is known for their unique and out-there style when it comes to baby names, as evident in Ashlee’s child Bronx Mowgli and their shared daughter Jagger Snow, whose name in particular sparked an outrage in the name community because of her violent connotation. This son wasn’t any different when it comes to rarity, but the name, Ziggy Blu, feels a little less intense than Bronx and Jagger, more carefree and youthful. Bob Marley, singer of Three Little Birds, has his own son called Ziggy, although his birth name is the much more incognito David. And Blu is quite the fun middle name. While I would opt for a middle name that ties down the very loud Ziggy, Blu is still a lovely choice. A color name with a sleeker spelling, Blu offers a quirky alternative to Beau and adds a pop of excitement to the name.

Upcoming Celebabies!

First up for prediction is… Emma Roberts! The Unfabulous star is expecting a baby boy, and she’s supposedly already chosen a baby name. I can see her going for a modern and sweet boy name (Beckett, Everett, Asher, Finn) or trying for something vintage-y but thoroughly on-trend (Arlo, Atlas, Atticus, Beau, Jude). She commented while being interviewed by Jimmy Kimmel that Veto wasn’t a bad name, so I thought perhaps that she was attracted to the vintage yet on trend sound of the -o ending or softer sound of -t. A wild assumption to go on, but unfortunately, I don’t have any siblings to go off of. Next up is Bethany Hamilton, a surfer whose story of courage after a shark attack in 2003 that left her without an arm put her in the spotlight, is expecting her third baby. She has two little boys already with husband Adam Dirks, called Tobias and Wesley, and the gender of the new addition is unknown. I would expect from her preexisting boys that a boy would have a similar vintage name (Simon, Milo, Oliver, Felix, Jasper) and for a girl, an equally older vibe (Matilda, Violet, Nora, Olive, Ivy). Finally, YouTuber LaurenzSide has announced her pregnancy via YouTube, catapulting the video called “I’m Pregnant!!!” to #2 on trending. Lauren and her husband Bobby have announced that they have a name for a girl, but not for a boy. I would guess that thanks to Lauren’s adoration of all things galaxy, a name with those undertones may appeal to her, with a couple wild guesses thrown in as well (Nova, Luna, Lily, Isla). For a son, I thought that something Irish surname-y or slightly vintage would work well to fit with her dog, Dexter (Declan, Callum, Reese/Rhys, Liam), but of course, dog naming style is a whole lot different than child naming style for most, so it’s difficult to say for certain what Lauren and Bobby might like stylistically. I hope you enjoyed this month’s celebaby coverage!

Sincerely,

~Delphina Moon
