September Celebabies-2020

Celebrity babies-or celebabies- are notorious for having outrageous, one in a million names, whether that be Elon Musk’s son X AE A-Xii, Frank Zappa’s Moon Unit, or Cardi B’s daughter Kulture. As a naming enthusiast, I believe it’s my duty to cover both the eccentric and wild and the on-trend monikers that may have just gotten enough momentum to take off, so I’ve decided to take a stab at reviewing (and predicting) my way through some September celebabies today! This is a brand new addition to my year-round series, and I’m hoping to make this a monthly occurrence, thanks to one of my loyal readers who suggested this idea. In addition, it is solely a coincidence that all of these celebabies are girls, and I will not be doing a celebaby boys article in the near future. Nevertheless, let’s get started with the Schwarzenegger-Pratt baby!

Lyla Maria Schwarzenegger-Pratt

Arnold Schwarzenegger has recently become a grandfather to a baby girl through his daughter Katherine and son-in-law Chris Pratt. They’ve named their baby girl Lyla Maria, with Maria likely nodding to Katherine’s mother, Maria Shriver. Her first name, Lyla, is a part of the evergrowing Layla-Lily-Lila trends that feel modern but rooted in traditional feminine sounds. Number #120 in 2019, Lyla is on the rise, surpassing her original spelling Lila by over 100 spots. Although I doubt that the birth of the Schwarzenegger-Pratt baby will take Lyla to the next level, I do predict that this delicate Arabian treasure will continue to soar. Meaning “night” and carrying an element of whimsy, little Lyla Maria’s name is simply stunning.

Arwen Lucinda Jane Scorsone- Sister to Eliza Alva Angelica and Paloma Michaela

The actress behind Amelia Shepherd of Grey’s Anatomy, Caterina Scorsone had her third daughter, a sister to Eliza and Paloma, named Arwen Lucinda Jane. Although it’s not necessarily the style I would’ve paired with the more vintage Eliza and Paloma, the name is striking all the same. Arwen, a Welsh name that perfectly covers the appeal of both Aria and Winnie with an elfin twist, has surprisingly dodged the top 1000 for decades. Her middle names, Lucinda and Jane, have more of the vintage vibe of her sisters, and Caterina has recently announced that Arwen will be going exclusively by a nickname for her middle name, Lucky. I’m doubtful that Lucky will have any significant influence on this name, given how Arwen didn’t budge even after the character in LOTR. However, it may help parents to see the name on a real child, and not on a fictional princess.

Daisy Dove Bloom- Half Sister to Flynn Christopher Bloom

One of the most eagerly awaited births of September, singer Katy Perry finally has spilled the beans on her daughter’s name: Daisy Dove Bloom. I had previously predicted Daisy Hudson Bloom, because I was aware of her song titled “Daisies,” and was guessing she would try a play on words with Daisy’s surname. The cute and contemporary Daisy fits well with the equally modern Flynn. Once too associated with the cartoon duck, Daisy is now quite trendy, and shot up to #164 in latest data. Livelier than Rose, and less expected than Lily, Daisy is showing some real promise for the top 100, especially with all the new press on Daisy Dove to back her up. The alliterative middle name, Dove, hasn’t appeared in the top 1000 for a while. However, I don’t see why. Serene and peaceful with spiritual connotation, and fitting in with new one-syllable bird names like Wren and Lark, Daisy could be the boost Dove needs to squeeze into the top 1000 next year.

Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran

Musician and singer Ed Sheeran and wife Cherry Seaborn recently welcomed a baby girl, whom they’ve called Lyra Antarctica. Yet another product of the Lily-Layla-Lila trend, Lyra is a much rarer take on a set of trendier names, but feels familiar and stylish. Number #673 in new data, this dazzling gem shows great promise, and I will go as far as to suggest that Lyra may become the next Lyla-Lily-Layla sensation. Not only does she have the sounds and resume with celebs to pull off a big jump next year, she’s also celestial related, derived from a constellation name. With Luna and Nova amongst the hottest trends, it won’t be shocking if Lyra’s astrological roots make her an overnight hit. And while her first name is decently rare with a familiar sound, her middle name has no problem sounding completely exotic. Antarctica is certainly a bold choice, and it’s believed that Lyra was conceived on the couple’s trip to Antarctica 9 months before her birth. Although I hesitate to say that Antarctica may ever enter the top 1000, the influence of Ed Sheeran’s daughter may cause a slight rise in this eccentric place name. Lyra will almost definitely be affected by her celebaby namesake, though.

Upcoming Celebabies!

We’re waiting on Nicki Minaj’s baby that is most likely coming in a matter of a few months as well as a celebaby from chef Duff Goldman and his wife Johnna (I’m guessing boy!). For Nicki, I’m putting my money on a goddess name for a girl (Athena, Andromeda, Persephone, or Artemis) and a powerful, mythological name for a boy (Caspian, Orion, Zeus, Romeo, or Persues). As for Duff, I would guess he would go for a delicate, 2-3 syllable choice for a daughter (Lily, Stella, Violet, Isabelle, or Eleanor) and a classic boy name with a modern feel (Henry, Owen, Jack, Ethan, or Wyatt). In addition to those two couples, Gigi Hadid and boyfriend Zayn Malik as well as John Legend and wife Chrissy Teigan are expecting little ones soon as well. For Gigi and Zayn, I expect a surname style name for a baby girl (Sawyer, Finley, Piper, Harper, Palmer, or Reagan) and an international but trendy choice for a son (Luca, Jude, Jonah, Matteo, Milo, or Oliver). As for John Legend and Chrissy Teigan, who are expecting a sibling for Luna and Miles, I would expect a trendy but feminine choice for a girl (Nova, Thea, Lucia, Cora, or Aurora) and a mainstream, modern classic boy name (Max, Asher, Ethan, Elliot, or Ezra). I hope you enjoyed my brief analysis of the recent celebaby choices, and my predictions for upcoming ones!

Sincerely,

~Delphina Moon
